Mission & Vision

What we stand for, and the landscape we hope to leave behind.

Mission

To foster sustainable forestry practice, support forestry students in their academic and professional growth, and promote the conservation of Estonia's forest and wetland ecosystems through education, research and hands-on fieldwork.

Vision

An Estonia where every generation of foresters leaves the forest richer than they found it — where ecological knowledge, professional skill and civic responsibility grow together, and where students are trusted partners in shaping the future of the landscape.

Our values

Stewardship

We treat the forest as a living inheritance to be cared for, not merely a resource to be used.

Knowledge

We value scientific understanding and seek to bring research and practice closer together.

Integrity

We act openly and honestly, and we account publicly for the resources entrusted to us.

Fellowship

We build lasting bonds between students, mentors and colleagues at home and abroad.

Our ecological framework

Sustainable forestry balances economic, ecological and social values over the long term. In our programmes we emphasise the forest as an ecosystem: soils, water, wetlands, wildlife and people are part of the same whole.

We give special attention to Estonia's bogs and mires, which store vast amounts of carbon and support rare species, and to the role of well-planned forest management in climate adaptation.

Student objectives

  • Give every member regular practical experience in real forests
  • Connect students with researchers, foresters and employers
  • Support student-led research and its presentation
  • Develop leadership through organising the Society's own activities
  • Encourage international exchange and cooperation
